Skyline CAP Head Start is a preschool program for income-eligible children in Madison, Greene, Rappahannock, Warren, Page, and Shenandoah counties.
Head Start helps prepare children for kindergarten by helping them develop cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically. Our services are designed to foster children’s healthy development by addressing the Health (Dental Exam, Vision, and Hearing Screenings), Nutrition, Mental Health and Behavioral Health Services needs of each child.
Head Start recognizes that parents are the first and most important teachers of children. Therefore, Skyline CAP Head Start works to strengthen the child by strengthening the family unit. Parents are encouraged to participate in committees, volunteer in the classroom, pursue Head Start employment opportunities, and attend parent-focused meetings.
Head Start provides opportunities for children to socialize with other children, explore and expand abilities and interests, listen to and speak with others; develop feelings of security and success; make choices; develop good personal and health habits; and learn about and receive nutritious foods.
Applications are accepted year-round for income-eligible families. Children must be three or four years old on or before September 30 of the enrollment year. Children with disabilities are encouraged to apply and may be eligible for services on or after their third birthday.
